Rare and elegant brass topographical mine diopter, signed on the compass's silver scale: Davis & Son Derby. Produced in the first half of the 19th century, this high-precision instrument was used for topographical and mining surveys, allowing the measurement of horizontal and vertical angles as well as magnetic orientation. The device has two fixed alidades with sighting systems, a large compass with a double goniometric circle graduated from 0° to 360°, a needle locking device and a double centesimal vernier ensuring extremely precise reading of angles.
