Electromagnetic Compass, Large Bronze Instrument Circa 1875, J. Salleron In Paris

Artist: Salleron Paris
Superb instrument, Tangent Compass, bronze, for determining value of magnetic fields.
This instrument, which is leveled on three screw feet, consists of a 22cm diameter vertical coil with wound copper wires, a large compass on a central 15.5cm diameter stand, a magnetic needle with stop balanced by two magnetic markers, and a silver and gold dial.
Four electrical wires can be screwed in underneath, on either side.
I have no idea how to use it or calculate its values… Good overall condition as found, quite dusty…
I don't see any missing parts, but I'm not an expert. (No problem refunding if you're not satisfied)
