Eugène Baudin: Interesting Small Vase In Green And Purple Enameled Stoneware, Silver Mounted

Very pretty and interesting stoneware vase imitating the skin of the eggplant, mounted in silver, attributed to Eugène Baffin

The vase rests on a plain silver pedestal. The narrow foot flares out and then narrows to the neck, also mounted in silver.
The vase has a superb glaze forming a gradient of purple and green from the foot to the neck imitating the dress of two-tone eggplants.
The effect is truly magnificent and very fine.

Eugène Baudin is a ceramist born in Vierzon on August 29, 1853 and died in Granges-sur-Aube on April 11, 1918. He went into exile following the Commune then returned to France in 1881 where he opened a workshop in Vierzon. His works presented at the universal exhibitions were very well received by the public, especially those mounted in silver.

Although this vase is not signed, this green and purple glaze is characteristic of the artist's work.

The silver parts are hallmarked:
. Minerva 1st title before 1973 for 950/°° silver
. Goldsmith's hallmark to identify: AD with a bird looking left.

Charming little vase with a deliciously vintage glaze.

Very good condition. Casting imperfections on the neck and very slight deformation of the foot.
