A very interesting and rare nesting cutlery set dating from the late 18th or very early 19th century.
It consists of a knife and a three-pronged fork that fit together.
The handles have white metal mounts, while the blade and fork are made of steel.
The blade has a partially legible mark: BAXT** (?). This type of cutlery dates from the last quarter of the 18th century and is generally of English manufacture. It was notably used during the American Civil War, and George Washington owned such a camp knife & fork.
A very fine early historical example of this type of cutlery.
