Rossollin - Aire-belle - Mediterranean Landscape Decorative Plate - Metallic Highlights 1909 - Massier

The composition depicts a Mediterranean landscape at twilight, featuring a stylized umbrella pine by the water’s edge and birds.

On the back, the signature “Aire-Belle” and “France” is incised into the clay.
The piece is accompanied by its original label from the factory, located in Puget-sur-Argens (Var), bearing the handwritten date of 1909.

In 1897, Alfred Rosselin purchased the Aire-Belle tile factory in Puget-sur-Argens to transform it into an artistic ceramics workshop; he recruited the ceramist and decorator Marcel Chevalier, who had just spent several years in Clément Massier’s workshops in Golf-Juan, and it is this direct connection that explains the technical affiliation and the obvious aesthetic influence—the iridescent seascapes and pine trees—shared by the two workshops at the turn of the century.
