Jules Jacquemart was the son of Albert Jacquemart (1808–1875), the founder of the history of ceramics in France. Famous for his art engravings and watercolors (held notably at the Musée d’Orsay), Jules illustrated his father’s most important works.
A rare piece: While the Jacquemart name is historic, pieces painted directly onto terracotta by Jules Jacquemart himself are virtually impossible to find on the market.
This piece follows in the tradition of slip-decorated works by painters who collaborated with the factories in Montigny-sur-Loing, Villelande, and Choisy-le-Roi (such as Alexandre Defaux and Émile Justin Merlot).
