Jean Tetard (?): Heavy And Massive Art Deco Solid Silver Fork C1930
Artist: Tétard
Heavy and imposing solid silver Art Deco fork.
The handle is very geometric, slightly trapezoidal. The interior is plain silver, the underside is marked with a double band on each side of the handle.
The fork is hallmarked:
. Minerva 1st standard pre-1973 for 950/1000 silver
. Tétard Frères with a tureen for the silversmiths who took over the business founded by their father, Edmond Tétard, in 1903.
Jean Tétard, one of Edmond Tétard's grandsons, was born in 1907. He revitalized the business with models featuring clean and elegant lines, in keeping with the Art Deco movement that developed during those decades. I haven't been able to find the exact model of this fork, but it is very likely that it was designed by Jean Tétard, or perhaps by another designer who worked for the company at the same time.
This piece is a manifesto of Art Deco, featuring geometric lines, minimalist decoration, and a strong presence accentuated by its massive size.
