Boin Taburet: Magnifying Glass In Solid Silver Vermeil In The Louis XVI Style. Late 19th Century.
Artist: Boin-taburet
Superb vermeil magnifying glass from the Boin-Taburet firm.
The magnifying glass is entirely made of vermeil, in the Louis XVI style. The handle is in the form of a fluted column, the end of which is covered with a wide base of acanthus leaves, itself surmounted by a large knotted laurel wreath.
The vermeil rim surrounding the glass is embellished with a laurel leaf torus, echoing the handle.
The magnifying glass is very functional with a beautiful magnifying effect.
It is hallmarked:
Minerva 1st standard (pre-1973) for 950/1000 silver
Maker's mark: GB with a stool, used between 1873 and 1900.
In full: Boin Tabouret // A Paris
A stamped number: 139573
The Boin-Taburet company was founded in 1873 through the partnership of jeweler Emile Taburet and antique dealer Georges Boin, his son-in-law. The quality of the company's work, evident in our box, was recognized at the Universal Exhibitions of 1878 and 1889.
In 1900, Georges Boin partnered with goldsmith Henri under the name "Boin et Henry Orfèvres" (Boin and Henry Goldsmiths), and the company changed its name again in 1906 to "Henry Frères et Cie" (Henry Brothers and Co.).
