Structure and materials
This piece of architecture is distinguished by its admirable proportions and perfect square shape. It is entirely crafted from solid, sumptuous Campan Vert marble, whose veining is enhanced by intricate carving alternating cavets, projections and flats.
Facade decoration
The antique-style decoration is extremely rich. The façade is enlivened by delicate fluting, embellished by two integrated bronzes representing stylized acanthus leaves and buttons. The whole is elegantly underlined by two moldings: one with a ribboned décor at the top, the other rounded at the base.
The Bucket and Finishes
The object is topped by a majestic hinged bucket (10 cm high and on each side), featuring classic decorative grammar:
- Motifs: Laurel wreaths, asparagus fluting, heart-shaped raisins and gadroons.
- Lid: Decorated with stylized acanthus leaves and topped with a flower bud.
Functionality
The lid opens onto an interior with a gilded brass lining (former ink reservoir). The body of the object also features a receptacle carved directly into the marble mass, acting as a pen tray or pocket divider.
