Very beautiful and large inkwell in chiseled and gilded bronzes and Maurin green marble decorated with the Imperial Eagle and Double Cups Period 19th century Napoleon III Signed by the sculptor Emile Pinèdo. (globe) The Base: The structure rests on an elegant rectangular base with concave sides, carved in a very beautiful solid Maurin green marble (origin Alps). Equipped with two hollowed receptacles, it rests on four flattened marble ball feet. The whole has a superb patina of use. The Main Subject: Stands a magnificent imperial eagle in the Empire style, with proudly spread wings. It grasps in its talons the flaming thunderbolt of Jupiter and overlooks a globe surrounded by clouds, bearing the signature "Pinèdo". The Inkwells: On either side of the eagle are arranged the two inkwells. Rectangular in shape and richly worked, they are topped with hinged lids, themselves surmounted by capitals with cut sides. A sumptuous decoration of palmettes, laurel wreaths, cornucopias and volutes adorns them. Ornaments: Finally, four bronze appliques, with rosette and palmette motifs, adorn the faces of the base. It was initially a company of art bronzes and furniture, managed first by the father around 1850, then by his son Emile, in 1865 under the name "Émile Pinèdo fils" in the Marais district of Paris. Émile Pinèdo also worked as a sculptor, from which he achieved some success. He made his debut at the Salon des Artistes français in 1870, then participated in the Chicago Exhibition in 1893 where he presented works that caught the public's attention for their polychrome patinas, all of excellent quality.
