Set Of 12 Art Deco Animal-shaped Knife Blocks – In The Style Of Sandoz – Circa 1930

A charming and elegant set of twelve Art Deco-era animal-themed knife blocks, presented in its original compartmentalized case lined with yellow satin.

Each knife holder depicts a different animal, rendered in a geometric and stylized manner characteristic of the 1920s and 1930s.

The series includes, among others, a cicada, a seal or sea lion, a fish, a crustacean, several birds, a monkey, an elephant, a rhinoceros, and felines.

The highly stylized design of these animals reflects the aesthetic of Édouard-Marcel Sandoz’s animal-themed creations, whose designs enjoyed great success during the Art Deco period.

A virtually identical set is also known to have been marketed by Le Comptoir Général, featuring a comparable composition of twelve animals.

The knife holders are made of chrome-plated or silver-plated metal and bear no visible hallmark.
