Enamelled Copper Box, Polychrome Decoration Depicting A Gallant Scene – 18th Century
A charming rectangular enameled copper box, dating from the 18th century, with polychrome painted decoration. The domed lid is adorned with a pastoral scene depicting a couple in a rural landscape, rendered in a delicate palette of greens, yellows, and blues, characteristic of 18th-century European production. The sides are decorated with finely executed polychrome floral garlands, while the base and interior feature white enamel. The box is mounted in a gilt copper frame with its original hinge. The piece demonstrates high-quality craftsmanship, typical of small decorative boxes from the second half of the 18th century. Good overall condition for its age. Note: – slight wear and micro-cracks to the enamel, a chip in one corner (see photo) – minor traces of oxidation and use, but no major losses. No apparent restoration. Dimensions: length 7.8 cm, depth 6.4 cm, height 3.7 cm. 18th century. Origin: European work, probably France or Germany. Refined decorative object, ideal for a collection of antique enamels, a cabinet of curiosities or a display case for a collector of 18th century objects.
