"Large Round Solid Silver Box – Engraving “return From The Fields” After Debat-ponsan "
An elegant and substantial round box in solid silver, entirely decorated with fine engraving. The lid features a rural scene entitled "Return from the Fields – after Debat-Ponsan," finely chased in a medallion, surrounded by a rich decoration of engraved scrolls, foliage, and flowers. The box's rim is also adorned with a continuous vegetal motif, executed with great care. It bears a Mercury head hallmark, 1st standard (925/1000), for imported or exported solid silver objects. The maker's mark CB is also visible in the images. Very good overall condition. The engraving is perfectly legible, the reliefs are crisp, and the lid fits well. There are a few minor, discreet dents. Diameter: 12.5 cm, height: 4 cm. Weight: 236 g. Late 19th – early 20th century (based on the style of the engraving and the rural subject inspired by Debat-Ponsan).
