Exceptionaland extremely rare Charles X period vase-shaped clock, dating fromcirca 1830, distinguished by the elegance of its proportions, therichness of its crystal craftsmanship and the ingenuity of its design. This remarkable timepiece stands out for its complete authenticity andoutstanding state of original preservation. It has undergone noalterations or modifications and retains all its original components, including its original pendulum, a precious testament to its historicalintegrity.
The vase, crafted from a single piece of solid crystal, displays exceptionalcutting throughout its entire surface. Its principal decorationcombines deeply cut diamond-point motifs, forming flattened pyramids, with delicate guilloché patterns on the flat surfaces. Thisprecisely executed geometric cutting creates a fascinating interplay ofreflections and light, enhancing the transparency and brilliance of thecrystal. The composition rests upon an elegant, richly cut pedestalfoot, terminating in a square base with architectural lines. The wide, gently flared upper opening accentuates the slender silhouette andharmonious balance of the entire piece.
One of themost remarkable features of this clock lies in the integration of itsmovement within the crystal itself. A specially designed opening in thebody of the vase accommodates the dial and its mechanism, secured by aningenious and distinctive mounting system. This construction preservesa substantial area of crystal at the rear of the vase, maintaining thetransparency and aesthetic continuity of the piece. The assemblyretains its original mercury fire-gilded bronze fixing knob, as well asits magnificent gilded dial and substantial, finely chiselled bronzebezel. The latter is richly decorated with water-leaf motifs, executedwith exceptional finesse. The gilded dial, adorned with delicateradiating guilloché engraving, features Roman numerals andslender blued steel hands. The combination of luminous gilding andfinely cut crystal creates a particularly refined contrast
The mechanism is entirely original, with a silk thread suspension.
