Clock Religious Louis XIV Style 19th Century XIXe
"Religious" clocks in the Louis XIV style and from the Napoleon III
period, circa 1860. Wooden case covered with a blackened wood
veneer and finished with a French polish, providing contrast,
luminosity, and protection. Rich, high-quality gilded bronze
ornamentation, featuring a finial in the form of a flaming urn and a
border of three friezes intricately carved with foliage.
The front is a large glass door with a lock and key, its frame carefully ornamented with acanthus scrolls and a Neptune head. The interior is lined with black velvet, providing a backdrop for a large, silvered steel dial with engraved numerals highlighted in black. It is further embellished with four corner mounts in chased bronze depicting floral scrolls. The gilded hands are finely crafted and engraved.
Original mechanism, unaltered. Strikes the hours and half-hours on an antique bell.
