Xl Porcelain Plate, Gilded Bronze Structure XIXème
A large decorative bowl from the Napoleon III
period, circa 1860, combining a finely chased and gilded bronze mount
with porcelain in the Sèvres style. The elegantly flared bowl
features a uniform sky-blue background enhanced with a rich gold
decoration of rocaille motifs and stylized scrolls, framing polylobed
reserves adorned with delicately rendered polychrome floral bouquets.
In the center, a wide circular reserve contains a gallant scene inspired by the 18th century, painted in a soft and nuanced palette, depicting figures in rustic dress in a slightly blurred landscape, characteristic of pastoral compositions inspired by the French school. The whole is highlighted by a finely worked gilt ornamental frieze, accentuating the depth and preciousness of the decoration.
The gilt-bronze mount, exceptionally rich in workmanship, adopts a Rococo and naturalistic decorative vocabulary: openwork side handles with foliate scrolls, a border highlighted by a flowing frieze, and a base adorned with vegetal swags and sculpted clasps, lending the piece a dynamic and balanced structure. The contrast between the luminosity of the gilt bronze and the satiny softness of the porcelain enhances the overall elegance of the object. Intended for decorative or display purposes, the virtuosity of the bronze and the pictorial finesse of the porcelain unite in a resolutely Neo-Louis XV spirit.
