18th-century Silver Swords
18th-century silver sword
Musketeer-style hilt with a carefully chiseled repoussé design featuring floral basketwork motifs and allegorical depictions of weapon trophies.
The tang is covered with silver filigree alternating with a rudan.
77.5 cm triangular blade, blued and gilded at the third, still in very "fresh" condition (oxidation toward the point).
Scabbard likely made of wood covered with parchment that was once white.
Two matching silver fittings with a checkered chiseled pattern (the pommel has been reattached).
There is a slight “stiffness” when inserting the sword into the scabbard at the very end, likely due to slight shrinkage of the scabbard.
Total length: 97.5 cm
