A hunting dagger/cutlass with a thick blade, Louis XV-Louis XVI period, with silver fittings. The handle is carved from ebony with cut silver mounts and a pommel with a riveted button. The straight guard quillon has scrollwork and bears a silver tax collector's hallmark in the center of the collar. The thick, stained blade has a fuller, flat back, and a false edge of the "carp's tongue" type. The black leather scabbard has three cut silver mounts and no ring (see photos). Length: 77 cm. Overall length: 76 cm. Blade width at the ricasso: 5 cm. Thickness of the back of the blade at the ricasso: 0.7 cm. Weight (with scabbard): 850 g.
