"General Or Superior Officer's Sword – Empire Period, Early 19th Century "
Early 19th century – Very good original condition Elegant high-ranking officer's or general's sword dating from the Empire period, featuring a finely chiseled and gilded bronze mount of high quality. The pommel is adorned with winged thunderbolts, a symbol of power and command, while the keyed guard features in relief a rich decoration of trophies of arms and a plumed helmet, ending in two lion heads. In the center of the keyed guard sits a superb medallion representing the goddess Athena crowned with laurels, emblem of wisdom and military strategy. The fuse, in grooved mother-of-pearl, is framed by a finely decorated gilded brass ferrule. The blade, 79.5 cm, retains approximately 95% of its original blue and gold, with some localized traces of surface oxidation, without structural damage. It is currently being sharpened, testifying to regular maintenance. The scabbard, in blackened leather with its two fittings, is in good condition. The chape retains all of its gilding. The chape, for its part, has lost its gilding. There is a small detachment of the leather at the upper level, just at the exit of the chape A rare and quality piece: This sword, with its rich and emblematic decoration of the Empire, is distinguished by the finesse of its chiseling and the excellent state of conservation of its gilding (approximately 95% ).
