Antique Scabbard For A Gladius
Accurately identifying this scabbard is beyond myexpertise. I will therefore leave it to the experts to decide.
It is a sword or " Gladius" scabbard, clearly of great age.
The material is a sheet of copper that has developed a green patina from a long period buried in the ground. I should note that the brown marks on this patina are not signs of iron components, but indicate that this scabbard was in prolonged contact with iron objects (a blade or something similar). Perhaps in a burial?
A piece of copper sheet folded near the opening of the scabbard was certainly intended to be threaded through a belt.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any further information about this scabbard, which remains a beautiful object at a very reasonable price.

Shipping costs: France€30, Europe €40
