Antique Bronze Dagger
This elegant antique dagger is beyond my level of expertise about its geographical origin.
The green patina is pleasant, and the shape of the blade, which tapers in the middle, is somewhat reminiscent of the silhouette of Mycenaean swords. Certain daggers from the Near East, dating from the10th century B.C., also show a resemblance, but I cannot say more than that. I’ll leave it to the experts to form their own opinion.
BLADE: It is integral with the hilt and was cast in a single piece with it. It begins by widening over the first 4 cm, then tapers for about a dozen cm, and finally widens into a leaf-like shape to form the tip. Beneath the patina, there are traces of sharpening with a stone on certain parts of the cutting edges Blade length = 27 cm
A pronounced central ridge on each side
GUARD: It is integral with the blade and extends along the 4 cm of the widened portion of the blade jus tafter the shoulder.
GRIP : It is twisted and ends in an oval pommel.
I did not notice in any place of this dagger any signs of rough casting as found on some later pieces.
Shipping costs: France €20, Europe €30
