White Porcelain French Bulldog Signed "thiem" — Fraureuth, Circa 1920
A charming glazed white porcelain sculpture depicting a French bulldog sitting on an oval terrace. With its ears pricked up, an attentive gaze, and its head turned slightly, this dog has a particularly lively expression. The modeling delicately highlights the musculature, the folds of the muzzle, and the details of the paws, which are accentuated by the glossy glaze.
The pedestal bears the incised signature “Thiem,” referring to the sculptor Otto Thiem, whose design is known to have been produced by the German Fraureuth factory around 1920.
On the underside of the base is the green stamp “Fraureuth Kunstabteilung,” denoting the factory’s art department, as well as incised marks.
A charming piece of animal-themed porcelain from the early 20th century.
