"Holy Water Font In Earthenware From Islettes"
Holy water font in polychrome high-fired earthenware from Islettes. Period late 18th - early 19th century. Characteristic shape with a painted backsplash with a peripheral border, painted cross, large, wide, half-spherical basin without a gadrooned nipple. Perizonium tied on the side... Its originality lies in abundant hair, mustache and beard and its sponge-painted cup in black. See photo of the reference book (image at the bottom right). This object is part of the iconographic images in this book, the former owner was partly the editor. Polychromy in perfect condition. Note a jump in the enamel at the edge of the cup in its inner part (not visible from the front). No cracks, no repairs. There are numerous missing enamels which are not chips/breaks but crazing defects: lack of enamel deposit from the cold laying before firing (edge of the cup and around the Christ)
