Large Sarreguemines Fine Earthenware Vase With Bird And Floral Decoration — Late 19th Century.
An elegant vase made of fine Sarreguemines earthenware, with a slender, slightly curved body and a flared neck.
Its polychrome decoration depicts a bird with outstretched wings amid flowers and leafy branches. On the reverse, delicate foliage extends the composition against an ivory background. The neck and foot, accented with yellow bands, feature a delicate turquoise hue.
The asymmetry of the decoration and the prominence given to nature evoke the Japanese-inspired aesthetic of the late 19th century.
The base bears the brown stamp with the crowned coat of arms “China Sarreguemines,” as well as painted and incised workshop marks.
