Léon Gérard Crépy (1872-1944) - Portrait Of A Young Women-pasrel
Charming portrait of a young woman executed in pastel on paper by the French painter Léon Gérard Crépy (Lille, 1872 – Brussels, 1945).p
The young woman is depicted in bust-length, her face slightly raised and turned three-quarters to the side. The artist pays particular attention to the modelling of the face and neck, delicately enlivened with soft pink tones, as well as to the hair, rendered with fine, subtle strokes.
The white pastel highlights of the dress contrast beautifully with the understated grey-green background, giving the portrait a lovely luminosity.
An appealing work, distinguished by the softness of the sitter’s expression and its elegant Belle Époque atmosphere, characteristic of female portraiture from the early 20th century.
Signed lower left: L. G. Crépy.
On the reverse, an old handwritten inscription mentions the painter Crépy as well as his death.
The pastel is presented under glass in its original antique black moulded frame, enhanced with a fine gilt inner border, particularly well suited to the work.
