Hand-carved Wooden Face Mirror With An Owl And A Spider — Circa 1900
Original hand mirror carved from wood with a brown patina, featuring an animal motif of an owl and a spider on the handle.
The oval-shaped mirror is set within a dynamic frame, embellished with scrollwork, small floral motifs, and beaded friezes. A mascaron crowns the ensemble in the Neo-Renaissance style.
The owl, with its meticulously detailed plumage, sits atop a small spider carved in relief. This unusual pairing gives this toiletries holder a unique presence, straddling the line between decorative bestiary and symbolic imagery.
The back is closed by a wooden panel and features a small hanging ring that also allows for wall display.
