Silk Kimono Decorated With A Dragon In Front Of Mount Fuji—showa Period (1912–1989).
JAPAN - Showa period (1912–1989).
Gray silk kimono painted on the back with a dragon’s head emerging from a cloud; the silk is textured in places to depict the dragon’s body, and Mount Fuji is depicted above its head. The collar and lining are midnight blue.
In very good overall condition.
Notes: Lightweight painted silk kimonos, worn primarily during the summer season, are distinguished by the fineness of their fabric and the delicacy of their patterns. The hand-painted designs draw from the repertoire of nature and Japanese iconography, combining flowers, landscapes, and mythical creatures.
Here, the dragon soaring among the clouds and depicted alongside Mount Fuji brings together several symbols of power and transcendence. As the master of waters and celestial phenomena, the dragon is associated with rain, fertility, and prosperity. Mount Fuji, a sacred mountain and emblem of Japan, represents spiritual elevation and harmony between humanity and nature. Their combination thus evokes a protective power connecting the earthly world to celestial forces.
