Blonde Lace Couture Dress - France, Circa 1930
Circa 1930–1935
France
A precious, unidentified haute couture floor-length gown made of Blonde lace dating from the Art Deco period in the 1930s. Most likely Calais lace, made of brocaded silk known as “Blonde,” featuring a scattered pattern of leaves on silk netting in silvery tones. Fitted cut, high waist with wide, flared panels at the bottom of the skirt, V-neckline, and dramatic three-quarter sleeves in the “Gigots” style, typical of Art Deco designs. The underskirt is missing (which likely bore the designer’s label) and has been replaced by this salmon-colored silk pongé underskirt dating from the same period. Although this dress has no major flaws (no holes or stains), it remains structurally fragile. Not wearable; for collection purposes only. Good overall condition.
