An elegant Chinese porcelain bowl crafted in the tradition of monochrome imperial porcelain and covered with a delicate moonlight glaze (
tianlan) in a luminous sky blue, characterized by the depth of its color and its satiny luster. This piece is a remarkable example of artistic Chinese porcelain from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, inspired by the prestigious imperial productions of the Yongzheng period.
The bowl features a widely flared body topped by a high, vertical rim modeled to resemble bamboo stalks. The upper rim is punctuated by a series of raised knots that enhance the sculptural elegance and balance of the composition. This design combines the simplicity of a monochrome glaze with one of the most iconic symbolic motifs in Chinese decorative arts.
In Chinese culture, bamboo embodies integrity, perseverance, longevity, and moral nobility. The deliberate absence of painted decoration highlights the perfection of the proportions, the purity of form, and the exceptional quality of the glaze, in accordance with the aesthetic principles developed in the imperial kilns of Jingdezhen in the 18th century, where monochrome glazes represented one of the highest expressions of ceramic art.
The base bears a square Yongzheng (雍正) mark painted in blue under the glaze. Such apocryphal marks were widely used by Chinese workshops in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a tribute to the artistic achievements of the Yongzheng imperial period and do not indicate the actual date of manufacture.
