Neo-renaissance-style Wine Pitcher, Germany, Second Half Of The 19th Century
A magnificent wine pitcher made in Germany in the second half of the 19th century in the Neo-Renaissance style. The body is made of engraved clear glass, decorated with two swans surrounded by floral motifs, creating a lace-like effect. The vessel is set in a silver mount richly decorated with floral festoons, acanthus leaves, rocaille scrolls, and cartouches.
The base is shaped as a four-lobed pedestal adorned with Renaissance motifs. The slender neck is adorned with leaves and rocaille motifs. The silver handle, exquisitely carved with a botanical design, is connected to the hinged lid of the spout. The lid, topped by a pinecone-shaped finial, is operated by a lever integrated into the handle.
This object is a refined example of the craftsmanship of 19th-century German silversmiths, combining the delicacy of glass engraving with the richness of silverwork.
