Mumuye Chamba Nigeria Benue Fetish Statue
Rare Chamba statue from Nigeria.
It displays all the geometric stylization common to the Mumuye, particularly the zigzag arms and legs; this is an artistically very interesting statue.
With a beautiful red patina typical of Chamba sculptures and significant signs of wear, this statue is ancient and has clearly been used; note the indigenous restoration on the beak and the delicacy of the arms detached from the body, which represents a true technical feat of sculpture.
A large hole runs through it at the temples; it may have been drilled to hold sacred objects!
Height: 53 cm.
