Jean-marie Toulgouat (1927–2005) – Garden – Oil On Bristol Board, 1982
Oil on Bristol board, signed and dated 1982 in the lower right corner.
Jean-Marie Toulgouat, a painter and a descendant of Claude Monet’s family through marriage, grew up in the artistic environment of Giverny, where his family was closely connected to the history of the Impressionist painter.
Deeply attached to Giverny, he devoted much of his work to depicting its gardens, vegetation and the landscapes of the Seine Valley, developing a distinctive painting style characterized by free, expressive brushwork and a particularly luminous palette.
Jean-Marie Toulgouat also played an active role in the preservation and restoration of Claude Monet’s gardens at Giverny, helping to safeguard and transmit this remarkable heritage.
Painted in 1982, this work reflects his enduring interest in colour and garden landscapes.
