Reproduction, The Census At Bethlehem After Pieter Bruegel The Elder, Print On Panel, Oak Frame

Artist: D’après Pieter Brueghel L’ancien

Reproduction of The Census at Bethlehem after Pieter Bruegel the Elder, print on panel, rustic solid oak frame, Flemish winter landscape

Reproduction of The Census at Bethlehem by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, after the 1566 oil on panel held in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, printed in colour on a wooden panel. The composition is reproduced in its entirety — a Flemish village under snow, a crowd gathered in front of the census office, Joseph and Mary on the donkey in the foreground, skaters on the frozen ponds — in the range of whites, ochres and browns characteristic of the painter. Presented in a rustic solid oak frame with projecting uprights, whose pale, patinated wood echoes the wintry palette of the work. A decorative picture for a living room, a library or an entrance hall, to hang or to stand on a console.

Reproduction after Pieter Bruegel the Elder (circa 1525-1569), The Census at Bethlehem, 1566.
Colour print on a wooden panel, under a thick varnish with a smooth, hard surface, crossed by a network of decorative craquelure imitating that of an old painting.
A scene from the Gospel of Saint Luke transposed to a snowy Flemish village: villagers gathered in front of the census office, Joseph carrying his carpenter's saw, Mary on the donkey; all around, scenes of village life — the slaughter of a pig, carts and barrels, children playing on the ice. A religious subject merged into the landscape, a characteristic approach in Bruegel's work.
Rustic frame in solid oak, with vertical uprights projecting at the top and bottom and the ends of the crossbars protruding at the sides.
Very good condition.
