Two-section Sideboard, "louis XIII" Style, 4 Doors With Diamond-shaped Finials, 17th Century, Four Panels, 2
A beautiful Louis XIII sideboard made of solid walnut, consisting of two stacked sections.
The lower section rests on two ball-and-claw feet at the front and two half-ball-and-claw feet at the back, all topped by broad molding.
The lower section opens at the front with two doors decorated with lozenges and flattened diamond points and features two drawers that open with two wrought-iron handles.
The upper section also opens with two doors featuring the same decorative work as the lower section.
The sides of this piece are intricately carved and feature four vertical panels and one horizontal panel made of small, rectangular inlays known as “chocolate” inlays.
A beautiful, scalloped cornice crowns the entire piece.
The panels are very thick. They are in perfect condition, which is quite rare for a piece of furniture from this period.
The ironwork (keyholes and mortise pins) is original, while the two locks have been replaced.
Note: there are a few old signs of wood-boring insects; we remind you that this piece dates from the 17th century and is, for its age, in remarkable condition.
