Pierre Hugo, Hand-painted Porcelain Plaque, Scriptorium, Monks, Middle Ages, Illumination

Artist: Pierre Hugo
A beautiful porcelain plaque, entirely hand-painted, depicting two monks in a medieval scriptorium.
The first is seated on a chair known as a “tongs chair,” pen in hand, creating an illumination.
The second stands, consulting a book.
This magnificent, highly realistic work was created by Pierre Hugo and bears the artist’s signature in the lower right corner.
Our porcelain plate is sold in a beautiful gilded frame.
Pierre Hugo was born in 1960 in Boulogne-Billancourt. He was a student in the drawing program at the École Pilote de Sèvres and then completed his training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, from which he graduated with a very solid education.
He specializes in genre scenes and figures from ancient civilization and the Middle Ages, as well as military uniforms.
He draws and paints for major publishers such as Nathan, Larousse, and Gallimard.
In collaboration with “Décors de Paris” and its founder, René Jullien, he created a series titled “Les Vieux métiers” (Old Trades) set in the Middle Ages.
