Eugène Leliepvre was born in Montreuil-sur-Mer in 1908 (Pas-de-Calais) and died on November 17, 2013, at the age of 105.
He is best known as a painter of cavalry scenes and portraits of elegant women. This latter aspect of his work constituted a significant portion of his output from 1940 to 1960. Some of these portraits of elegant women are reminiscent of those by Gabriel Domergue.
He is also renowned for his hunting scenes and animal paintings. For forty years, he was a contributor to *Le Chasseur Français*, and for twenty-three consecutive years, he illustrated the *Manufrance* calendar.
With the help of his wife, he also worked as a model maker and costume designer for the Musée de la Marine in Paris.
In 1951, he was appointed official painter to the armed forces.
He was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1998.
