Louis XVI-era Armchair, 18th Century, "de Rais De Cœur" Design, Piastres, And Fluted Spindle Legs

A beautiful period Louis XVI wing chair in solid waxed walnut.
It rests on four tapered, fluted legs.
The upper sections of the two front legs feature a tapered section supporting a cubic block carved with a rosette, to which the side rails of the frame and the curved front rail are attached.
These three crossbars are decorated with heart-shaped rays.
The armrests of our bergère are “cavet”-style. They consist of a fluted and serrated stop, surmounted by acanthus leaf decoration and a row of piastres.
The inner edge of the backrest is carved with heart-shaped rays.
The upper crossbar of the backrest is strongly curved and lowered at both ends, and was referred to as “hat-shaped” by the *Cabinet des Modes* in March 1786.
This chair is a beautiful example typical of pieces from the years 1780–1785.
This armchair is in good condition and very stable, but we note that old reinforcements have been added and inlaid into the woodwork at the back of the backrest and at the junction of the armrests with the upper crossbar (see photo 7).
Also note that each leg has been raised with a turned wooden extension to provide a higher seat, allowing this chair to be used not only as a lounge chair but also as an office chair.
The upholstery is in good condition and very comfortable; the covering fabric is satin, though it is in a typical “home-use” condition, showing minor signs of wear, a tear on the outer edge of one of the armrests, a few water stains on the seat (see photos 10 and 11), and partial peeling of the trim.
