Two-part Louis XIII Style Buffet In Solid Walnut, Diamond Points, 17th Century, Upper Section Diminutive
A very fine Louis XIII style buffet in solid walnut, composed of two superimposed sections. The lower section rests on two splayed feet at the front and two half-splayed feet at the back, all surmounted by a wide molding. The lower section opens at the front with two doors decorated with lozenges and flattened diamond points and has two drawers secured by two wrought-iron handles. The upper section also opens with two doors featuring the same decoration as the upper section. The sides of the piece are intricately carved and feature four vertical panels and one horizontal panel of "chocolate" inlays. A beautiful fluted cornice crowns the whole. The wood is very thick. They are in perfect condition, which is quite rare for a piece of furniture from this period. The ironwork (keyhole escutcheons and mortise hinges) is original, while the two locks have been replaced. Note some old traces of wood-boring insects; we remind you that this piece dates from the 17th century and is in remarkable condition for its age. Dimensions: Total height: 174 cm; Dimensions of the lower section: Height 100 cm, Depth 59 cm, Length 140 cm; Dimensions of the upper section: Height 74 cm, Depth to the cornice 46.5 cm, Length to the cornice 132 cm.
