Silver Clown Figure. Vittorio Ancini, Italy, Arezzo, Second Half Of The 20th Century
Expressive silver cabinet figure depicting a clown, crafted by the Italian workshop Ancini in the second half of the 20th century. The sculpture depicts a comical character dressed in a distinctive circus costume with short pants, a loose-fitting jacket, and a large decorative bow tie. The figure’s form conveys a theatrical gesture: the character leans slightly forward with arms outstretched, while his face expresses an exaggerated comic emotion, lending the composition dynamism and theatrical flair.
The figure stands out for the meticulous modeling of the costume and the expressiveness of the face. The surface of the silver is polished to a high gloss, creating a characteristic play of reflections that highlights the sculptural structure of the garment’s folds. The composition is further enhanced by polychrome enamels on silver: a bright red nose, polychrome accents on the bow tie and buttons, as well as contrasting laces, which reinforce the theatrical nature of the image and give the figure an expressive, stage-like individuality.
The composition is distinguished by the unity of its silhouette and its harmoniously balanced proportions. Such genre figures became widespread in Italian artistic silversmithing during the second half of the 20th century and were created as decorative interior objects intended for collecting and for use in prestigious interiors.
