Joseph Giroud – Lake Eychauda at Sunrise, 1932 – Pastel
A high-quality pastel depicting Lake Eychauda, in the Pelvoux Massif, at first light. Signed “Giroud” and dated 1932 in the lower right corner, it also bears a handwritten inscription on the back specifying the depicted location and the theme of the sunrise.
The composition centers on the turquoise waters of the lake, bordered by rocks and dominated on the right by an imposing mountain face streaked with snowfields. In the background, the peaks are tinged with shades of pink and gold, while a luminous blue sky opens up the perspective.
The pastel technique delicately captures the rocky terrain, the reflections on the water, and the crispness of the alpine atmosphere. The intense blues of the lake contrast with the grays, browns, and mauves of the mountains, lending the entire scene a beautiful depth.
This work is attributed to Joseph Giroud, a painter from the Dauphiné region active in the first half of the 20th century, known for his mountain landscapes in pastel.
Presented under glass in its original wooden frame with veneer decoration, which has a few minor imperfections and missing areas visible in the photographs.
