Regency Period Carved And Gilded Wooden Mirror – Early 18th Century

Regency Period Carved and Gilded Wooden Mirror – Early 18th Century. An exceptional, finely carved and richly gilded wooden mirror from the Regency period, early 18th century. Standing 96 cm tall, this piece displays particularly harmonious proportions for a mirror of this period, offering both wall elegance and a strong decorative presence. It is relatively rare to find models of this size that retain such ornamental richness and such luminous gilding. The openwork pediment is remarkable: it is organized around an elegant floral basket, framed by scrolls, volutes, and large, vibrant acanthus leaves, typical of the Regency style, a pivotal period between the majesty of Louis XIV and the emerging lightness of the Louis XV style. The delicately carved flowers enliven the composition and provide subtle relief, enhanced by a finely gridded background that beautifully captures the light. The lower spandrels are adorned with powerful, deeply carved foliate scrolls, revealing exceptional craftsmanship. The whole piece testifies to remarkable workshop expertise. The gilding, of exceptional quality, displays a beautiful, warm, and nuanced antique patina, subtly highlighting the forms. It retains all its brilliance while offering that incomparable velvety feel that only age can provide. The mirror is framed by a simply crafted molding, allowing the carving to take center stage. There are some old restorations consistent with age, without detracting from the overall aesthetic appeal. A striking, elegant, and authentic decorative piece, ideal above a chest of drawers, console table, or in an interior that blends classic and contemporary styles. Height: 96 cm Period: Regency, early 18th century Material: carved and gilded wood A true decorative work of art, both refined and architectural, which will bring character and nobility to any interior.
