Louis Sosson (active From 1905 To 1930) Chryselephantine Sculpture – Draped Woman –
Artist: Louis Sosson
Louis Sosson (active 1905-1930) Chryselephantine Sculpture – Woman in Drapery – 27 cm. This elegant chryselephantine sculpture depicts a young, nude woman revealing herself in a flowing drape of gilt bronze. The work is by Louis Sosson, a sculptor active from 1905 to 1930. The delicately and sensually modeled female figure is rendered in a light color in the chryselephantine tradition, contrasting with the warm richness of the finely chiseled and gilded bronze drapery. The interplay between the satiny softness of the body and the deep, luminous folds of the fabric creates a particularly refined effect. The pose is graceful and highly decorative: the young woman, with a slight sway of the hips, raises one arm in a supple gesture while the other holds the drapery, in a movement that is both modest and theatrical. The piece is fully in keeping with the aesthetics of the early decades of the 20th century, between the end of Art Nouveau and a sensibility already approaching Art Deco. The sculpture rests on a base of veined green marble, forming a pedestal, which enhances the piece with its chromatic contrast and striking architectural presence. Signed L. Sosson on the side of the base. Total height: 28 cm. Note: a small, old chip at the tip of one finger (visible in the photo), discreet and in no way detracting from the aesthetic appeal or the sturdiness of the work. A high-quality decorative sculpture, characteristic of early 20th-century French chryselephantine production, sought after for the elegance of its lines and the refinement of its materials.
