Pier Antonio Gariazzo, 1879–1963, an Italian painter of portraits, landscapes, seascapes, genre scenes, and figures. Engraver, writer, and filmmaker. He studied under Domenico Bruschi and Francesco Vitalini at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, then at the Academy in Brussels. Initially, he was the painter of the elegant women of the Belle Époque, then devoted himself to cinema from 1911 to 1924 with his own production company, Savoia Film, in Turin. He then returned to painting, settled in Brussels—where he remained active until 1939—and participated in numerous exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, Berlin, London, Rome, Milan, Turin, and elsewhere. He then returned to Turin, his hometown, which he would never leave again until his death. A prolific traveler, he was active in Africa, Indonesia, Polynesia, Germany, Belgium, France, and, of course, Italy. The artist is listed in Bénézit, Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, and other sources...
