Depicting a lively view of the Grand Place in Yprespainted in 1948. The painting shows the Belfry of the Cloth Hall, the entire front section of which had not yet been rebuilt following the destruction of World War I.
Herman Verbaere, 1905–1993, Belgian landscape painter, watercolorist, draftsman, engraver, and designer of posters and postage stamps. He studied at the Academy of Wetteren, his hometown, and later under De Boever and Coddron at the Academy of Ghent. He drew inspiration primarily from Flemish towns and villages, the banks of the Scheldt, the Campine region, and the Zeeland Coast. A gifted colorist, he brought colors to life in a delicate and poetic way. Renowned as a creator of tourist posters, he produced numerous posters for the SNCB between 1935 and 1967. From 1962 to 1970, he worked on designing postage stamps for Belgium. He was also a book illustrator and a professor at the Wetteren Academy. Works are held at the Ghent Museum. The artist is listed in Bénézit, Arto, and Piron. Priced by Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
