Maurice Wery, 1911–1978, was a Belgian painter, watercolorist, draftsman, and engraver born in Liège. He was a student of Jean Donnay at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège. A creator of portraits, figures, illustrations, landscapes, and seascapes, he often drew inspiration from bustling city life. Drafted into the army, he left for the front in 1940, where he was taken prisoner and produced numerous works during his captivity. Upon his return, he became deaf. He then entered a period characterized by surrealist and even fantastical elements, which influenced his compositions. He exhibited at the Cercle des Beaux-Arts in Liège from 1945 to 1978. Works are held at the Museum of Liège. The artist is listed in the Bénézit, Arto, and Piron (Dictionary of Belgian Painters). Listed on Artprice, Artnet, etc...
