Antique 19th-century Snuffbox Shaped Like A Shoe Snuff Shoe
Welcome to my shop.
A stunning antique wooden snuff box, shaped like an elongated shoe. This type of box, known in English as a “snuff shoe,” belongs to the sought-after category of small antique wooden utilitarian objects, also known as “treen.”
The box is richly decorated with floral and geometric motifs made of inlaid brass and copper wires. The decoration continues on the sides as well as on the sole. The compartment for snuff is located in the heel and is closed by a perfectly fitting removable wooden lid.
Probably made in England or Wales around 1840–1880.
Condition: vintage, used but in good condition. Small sections of the inlaid metal wires are missing in places. The lid and edges show some damage as well as normal signs of age and use. Please examine the photographs carefully; they are an integral part of the description.
