Polychrome Low-relief Carved Wooden Panel – Bouquet In A Gadrooned Vase – France, Late 18th
Rectangular low-relief carved wooden panel – original polychromy – Bouquet in a gadrooned vase – Southern France, late 18th century (Louis XVI–Directoire transition period)
A remarkable rectangular low-relief carved wooden panel, retaining its original polychromy and featuring a large, lush bouquet emerging from a gadrooned vase. The composition—balanced and nearly symmetrical—is centered around a prominent flower at the top, whose blue pigment remains remarkably fresh and captivatingly intense. The primary appeal of this piece lies in the richness and authenticity of its colors; the contrast between the aubergine-toned background, the blue surrounding the edges, and the white of the floral motifs creates the piece’s truly sublime quality. Traces of green polychromy are also visible.
On the reverse, the wood displays a pleasing, raw, and lustrous patina.
In excellent state of preservation, with a patina consistent with the panel’s age. Structurally stable.
