Oil on panel: View of the Peerdenbrug Bridge in Bruges, Belgium, signed “Pierre VALADE” in the lower right corner. Undated. In a beautiful Montparnasse frame. The artwork is in very good condition.

On the back, numerous annotations and a label bearing the following information: Pierre Valade, Award Winner of the Institute, Former Resident of the Casa Velasquez in Madrid, Salon Medalist, National Travel Scholar of the State, Approved by the Historic Monuments Authority, Winner of the International Flower Show.

In a Post-Impressionist style characterized by a luminous and vivid palette and clearly visible brushstrokes, the artist depicts this famous Bruges bridge spanning a canal lined with traditional Flemish houses featuring sloping roofs and stepped gables.

The Peerdenbrug (or Horse Bridge) is one of the oldest, most famous, and most picturesque stone bridges in Bruges, Belgium. It spans the Groenerei Canal and takes its name from the adjacent Peerdenstraat. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages.

Pierre Valade (1909–1971) was a French painter. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Poitiers and then in Paris, he moved to Madrid as a resident artist at the Academy of Fine Arts at the Casa Velázquez. Upon his return to France, he pursued a career as an independent painter alongside his position as an art teacher. Throughout his life, he organized and participated in numerous exhibitions. He was what one might call a traveling painter. He died in 1971 in Soisy-sous-Montmorency (Val-d’Oise, France).
