Louis XV Style Marquetry Side Table With Gilt Bronze Mounts – 19th Century

Elegant Louis XV style occasional table, French work from the second half of the 19th century, featuring fine marquetry in various precious woods and gilt-bronze mounts.

The shaped top is richly veneered and decorated with an elaborate floral marquetry composition. At the centre, a finely executed bouquet of flowers is set within a scrolling reserve, surrounded by delicate foliate motifs and ornamental inlays.

The arrangement of the veneers, laid out in contrasting sections around the central decoration, beautifully enhances the natural grain and tonal variations of the different woods, giving the top considerable decorative depth.

The edge of the top is bordered with a gilt-bronze gallery following the elegant curved outline of the table.

The piece stands on four slender cabriole legs in solid wood, each adorned at the upper section with finely cast gilt-bronze floral and foliate mounts and terminating in gilt-bronze sabots.

The underside construction, joinery, bronze fittings and overall patina are consistent with traditional 19th-century cabinetmaking.

Good overall condition, with minor wear, small marks and age-related imperfections consistent with its period.
