Quadrangular Pyxide Made Of Limoges Champlevé Enamel In The Style Of The 13th Century
Quadrangular pyx in champlevé enamel—in the 13th-century style with a pyramidal lid, Limoges, early 19th century.
Square liturgical casket in patinated bronze or copper, lavishly decorated with polychrome champlevé enamels (turquoise blue, lapis blue, white, green, and yellow).
Decoration: The main sides feature a circular central medallion bordered in white on a midnight blue background, enclosing a yellow cross pattée. On either side are green and white foliage motifs of scrolls and palmettes on a sky-blue enamel background, enhanced by a geometric latticework pattern.
Lid: A four-sided lid that follows the shape of the box, topped with a cylindrical brass knob. The decoration reinterprets the floral and geometric motifs found on the sides.
Fittings: Original hinge on the back and hinged clasp on the front.
A beautifully crafted piece directly inspired by 13th-century Limousin production (Limoges enamels). In excellent condition, with slight signs of age and minor wear on the enamel that in no way detract from the overall quality.
Characteristics:
Materials: Copper / bronze, champlevé enamel
Period: Medieval style / 19th century or Neo-Gothic
Condition: Good overall condition, patina from age
